Some new photos:
Tahitian Gardenia ( Gardenia taitensis ) known as “Tiare Flower” in the islands. This is a great plant for our sunny, coastal conditions. Steady bloomer of sweetly fragrant white pinwheel flowers approx 4″ in diameter. Leaves are dark green and glossy- large and tough.
This flower is very important in Tahitian culture, where it is worn behind the ear and made into oils and shampoos.
Hard to find, yet a good plant for the Space Coast. I’ve been growing it for over 12 years in my garden- it’s one of my all time favorites. Exotica Tropicals is fully stocked with Tahitian Gardenia at the moment!
A few blooming Heliconia around the nursery: Heliconia bihai x marginata ‘Rauliniana’ (right)
Heliconia stricta ‘Firebird’ (center), Heliconia rostrata (hanging on left), Justicia ‘Orange Plume’ (in back)
Philodendron gloriosum - a terrestrial spreader with big velevety leaves. Likes a shadier protected spot.
Collector Cordylines (Ti Plants) “Picasso Red” and “Hilo Rainbow”
Megaskepasma erythrochlamys “Brazilian Red Cloak”
Very tropical looking large leaves with brilliant fuschia towering blooms – a butterfly favorite.
Justicia Spicigera ‘Sidicaro’ – “Orange Plume”
